Kersten is passionate about hearing the needs of vulnerable populations, developing individualized plans and coordinating care for quality authentic wellness.  She has spent her career providing a voice and seeing both children and women as they are without expectation or judgment.  She specializes in anxiety, OCD, trauma (with a special interest in birth trauma), perinatal and reproductive needs, infant mental health, play techniques, adjustment to chronic and acute medical diagnoses as well as grief and loss support. Kersten believes that your time with her is your space to heal, develop plans to meet your goals, and realize the strengths that live inside you. Kersten is also available to provide clinical supervision for LMSW candidates, educational presentations focused on Birth Trauma and/or Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders and collaboration or creation of workshops in her areas of specialization.  She particularly enjoys the intersection of yoga breath and movement with mental health and physical wellness.

EDUCATION AND WORK HISTORY

Kersten has been a working in women and children’s mental health since 1999. She has been practicing as a Master of Social Work level clinician since 2005 in various capacities from infant mental health at Community Mental Health, Women and Children’s medical social work at Sparrow Hospital and ultimately, she founded her private practice in 2011. Kersten graduated with a specialization in Infant Mental Health, sits on the Board of Directors of Postpartum Support International Michigan, cofacilitates the Capital Area Perinatal Wellness Coalition and is a certified Perinatal Mental Health provider.
